Dr. Ralph Baessler, born in 1967, studied Chemistry at the Technical University in Dresden (Germany). He received his Diploma 1993 and his Ph. D. in Chemistry in 1997. Before joining in 1998 the laboratory “Corrosion in Civil Engineering and Technical Plants“ at the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM) in Berlin he worked at the Institute of Solid State and Materials Research in Dresden (1993 - 1997) and 1997/98 at the Corporate Research and Development Center of General Electric in Schenectady (USA).

His main activities are corrosion and corrosion protection of reinforced and prestressed concrete structures, stainless steel and Ni-base alloys including monitoring and rehabilitation techniques.
