At the outset I would like to express my appreciation for Prof. Ives's
insightful virtual keynote address. His concerns about the nature of the net
promoting (in a discussion group or conference format) seeming simple
queries and unqualified, incomplete responses, while valid, are, I think, no
different from what I have seen in conventional conferences or dialogs. In a sense
the net, in view of the anonymity it affords, promotes an intellecutally
more honest and open discussion.

Of course, we can sanguinely hope that such open discussions will bring out
at some point a technically credible and accurate response. In this sense, I do think
that the net offers a significant advantage. Also, once the surfers get used to the
water temperature and the wave lengths, ideas will flow easier and the surfing smoother.
